Sheila Quinn
1. Quinn Leaves IFM, Exploring New Options
Sheila Quinn, formerly senior editor and head, publications department for the Institute of Functional Medicine, has resigned her position there to "take a few months of relaxation." Quinn, a co-founder of Bastyr University and of the Integrated Healthcare Policy Consortium, which she chairs, explained her decision: "I began working more than 50 years ago and felt the need for a moment to
refocus my attention on what I'd like most like to do in the years to come. I'll be looking around for challenging and
exciting professional work after the new year." Quinn, whose resume also includes a stint as executive director of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, was recently tapped by Jeanne Drisko, MD to support development of integrative medicine curriculum for the University of Kansas School of Medicine. For IFM, Quinn's responsibilities included editing and managing the publication of the widely-acclaimed Textbook of Functional Medicine. She can be contacted at
. 2. Conventional Academic Consortium Names New Committee Chairs
The Integrator previously reported that Victor Sierpina, MD and Adam Perlman, MD, MPH have taken over as chair and vice-chair, respectively, of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine (CAHCIM).The consortium also named the following to leadership positions:
Clinical Working Group Co-Chairs: Andy Heyman, MD, MHSA, University of Michigan and Jillian Capodice, LAc, MS, Columbia
Education Working Group: Mary P. Guerrera, MD, FAAFP, University of Connecticut and Ron Glick, MD, University of Pittsburgh
Research Working Group Co-chairs: Susan Gould Fogerite, PhD, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Laurie Lachance, PhD, University of Michigan
The consortium now has 40 member academic health centers in the United States and Canada. Capodice's role as a CAHCIM working group co-chair is a first for a member of the licensed complementary and alternative healthcare professions, once again signaling that organization's openness to no-MD participation.

3. Weeks Appointed to Corporate Health Improvement Program National Advisory Board
The Corporate Health Improvement Program, founded by Kenneth R. Pelletier, PhD, MD (hc) is
undeniably the leader in forging integrative medicine explorations
among large employers. (See related Integrator article "Pelletier-Weil
Program Has Major Employers Exploring Integrative Medicine Approaches,"
September 13, 2006.) I am very happy to report that Pelletier recently
asked me to join CHIP's very fine National Advisory Board. Pelletier
explains: "Developing integrative medicine interventions in worksites demands an
understanding of the larger social, cultural, and political environment in which
private corporations operate. Through the Integrator and his other
professional activities, John Weeks provides this unique perspective and that
is why we have invited him to participate in the National Advisory Board of the
Corporate Health Improvement Program and we are looking forward to
working together."
Comment:
Ditto, Ken! This is a particularly pleasing appointment as a focus of my work in 2008 will be on stimulating understanding and
value-creation between employers and the CAM/IM communities. More on
this soon ...
