Summary: The following 36 short segments, with links, are briefly noted developments focusing on health system-based integrative medicine programs from mid-September through October 6, 2012. These were selected from scores of Google Alerts postings during that time period. They are meant to serve as a quick scan of developments in the rapidly evolving medical doctor-focused areas of integrative medicine in hospitals, health systems and academic health centers.

These notes are from Google Alerts on selected topics during late September and early October 2012. As a side-note, two areas of significant media attention during the month, which popped up frequently in various forms, were based on scientific publications with positive outcomes for integrative approaches. One is the Scripps-based study on mind-body for PTSD in Marines and the other the the systematic review of the acupuncture literature which found value in integrative medicine.
- The Eastern Connecticut Cancer Institute boasts its integrative medicine services on this page of its site.
- The medical directors of the Sutter Downtown Integrative Medicine in Sacramento focus on the evils of soda in this column in the Bradenton Herald.
- Under a new HRSA program managed by the American College of Preventive Medicine, 13 academic health centers with specialties in integrative medicine will be establishing IM in preventive medicine residency programs.
- A document on outcomes of the LEAPS program for medical students in integrative medicine was posted.
- The president of the NCH Healthcare system had a column published strongly supporting integration of CAM.
- The Feist-Weiler Cancer Center of the LSU Shreveport health system boasts recent inclusion of acupuncture.
- Duke Integrative Medicine has posted a new video on its new Duke Integrative Primary Care program featuring Anne Nedrow, MD, MBA.
- The not-for-profit St. Louis Institute for Integrative Medicine is holding its third annual symposium at Missouri Baptist University.
- Andrew Weil, MD of the Arizona Center for Integrative medicine was present at a Tucson screening of Escape Fire, in which he figures prominently.
- A new page is up at the UCLA Breast Center featuring the Simms-Mann Center for Integrative Oncology.
- The East Oregonian featured a story on a new CAM center at the local VA hospital. The Walla Walla, Washington paper similarly covered the addition.
- A column by hospital executive Nick Jacobs talks of integrative medicine programs in three New Jersey health systems.
- James Gordon's not-for-profit Center for Mind-Body Medicine is featured in the Colorado Independent feature which focuses on uses in the military.
- Scripps research on integrative therapies for PTSD with Marines is the subject of this Huffington Post piece. Dozens of other media outlets picked up the story.
- New Hampshire's Hospital for Children features its Elliot Integrative Pediatric Clinic.
- The Samueli Institute sent a release featuring the cost-effectiveness work of its Senior Research Scientist Patricia Herman, PhD, ND.
- Lakeshore Health Partners has posted an hour-long lecture on integrative medicine.
- Arizona's Banner health sent out a notice
on the occasion of the first anniversary of its Gilbert integrative
cancer program with a $5-million gift. Additional article here on the Cox Foundation gift which will lead to a renaming of the program after the donor.
- Beth Israel's Woodson Merrell, MD is featured on this FOX new show on "Alternative medicines that actually work."
- The University of Alabama School of Medicine features its CAM offerings here.

Note that it is not always clear why Google picks up one story over another, or, for instance, alerts on to a page on a health system website. Perhaps it is when new pages are created or old ones reshaped. Regardless, the breadth of activity speaks strongly to the level of uptake of these providers and services in conventional healthcare delivery.
